Gil Blache was born in Paris, in 1953. He currently lives either near Lyon or in Saigon. His father was a literature teacher, passionate about cinema; and his mother liked classical music. His education was turned to humanist values and he grew up close to “New Wave cinema” and ”psychedelic rock music”. During his childhood and teenage years, he took his first art photographs and first short films which prefigured his later work. Then, Gil Blache focused his time to medicine, family life, still strongly connected to the artistic environment. In 1999, after 15 years of silence, he started photography over. Ob-Gyn, he travelled to practice near different populations, which he loves to discover and understand. He started at first in Senegal for two years, then multiple times in Vietnam from 1986 until now.
His numerous trips and his passion for painting are his source of inspiration; the series show nature, architecture and people in the eyes of a painter; lines, colors, compositions are essential in his work. The themes he treats interact and contain the constant questioning of the artist, regarding the human being in its environment, appearances, dreams, and escape…faced by the indifference of passing time. He shoots color pictures, with a “Medium format camera” suitable to large prints. At first, he used film, then switched to digital.
